Work, work, work

Well, these past couple of days have been pretty busy. We tried to give up selling breakfast, but then Joe introduced his Idaho Torpedoes (jalepenoes, cream cheese mixture,etc) to the folks around us and now they like it in their breakfast burritos. So he's been getting up at 5:00 and doing breakfast. Then we get down there in time to set up for lunch, and we just rock through the day. Yesterday was a little slow as the weather was hot. It also seems like people are starting to pack up and move out. Our neighbors at the rv park left yesterday for Yellowstone.
We have pretty much seen the last of our cooking for this show and Joe decided to change the oil in the vacuum sealer. That oil was in dire need of changing. If Troy or Katherine had been thinking, they would have had the camera ready. Joe got the old oil out and the new stuff in and he decided to take it for a spin. Note to self, cap off the filler tube. There was vacuum oil on the ceiling, the refrgerator, the cabinets, the walls and of course the floors.....much of that was from the dripping ceiling. Joe showed an amazing amount of temper control. Unusual for him but maybe this Sturgis thing is teaching him to be calm and patient. I doubt it too. One would think that with his past history of oil changes on the truck, he would think about hiring chores such as this out.
Joe and I drove into Sturgis yesterday during our break and visited Hell Fighters. They are a Christian organization that sets up and helps those in need during the rally. Basically, they help the police round up the drunks and get them sobered up. It's actually a large outfit that is setting up locations around the U.S. They put up large crosses so you can tell them apart from those without crosses, and are there to help those in need. We found out about them through one of our Ford guys, J.R.. He's a member and directed us down there. You can look them up on the internet at www.hellfighters.org. Great group of people. Anyway, before we leave tomorrow we're going to leave some of our bbq to feed their volunteers.

Several days with no detours or calamities. A few nights ago, when it was raining, I fell off and broke our stepstool, bumping my head and elbow on the trailer. I suppose I had what would be close to a concussion. It dazed me for awhile, but felt better by the end of the night thanks to some medicinal whiskey. Now, I'm just healing from the bruises. Every so often, Troy finds the need to cut or burn some part of his hand. I guess it helps to remind him that he's alive and well. But he heals quickly and no hospital runs.
Yesterday the water heater for our dish wash station self-destructed on Kathryn. She turned it on and it caught on fire. With the propane flowing we had our own torch. This brand of water heater (Coleman) has a history of problems with Joe's friend, Dave, so we were anticipating problems. Now we get to add to the list.
Today is our last day of serving. I think we are all ready to finish up as it's been a long haul. But we've met a lot of wonderful and interesting people, and we are planning to do it again next year. We're going to close down early tonight and visit Sturgis (just so we can say we've been there and seen it all). Of course, Troy will be walking with a blindfold on :}
I have to admit we are really missing the kids and want to get back to them asap.
